Rianne Mision

Musician & Educator

Rianne Mision is a guitarist and educator based in New York City.

Rianne began playing the guitar as a teenager. After studying classical guitar for only one year, she was awarded a scholarship to the Manhattan School of Music, where she studied with guitarist-composers David Leisner and Mark Delpriora and performed in master classes for Martha Masters and Benjamin Verdery. She received her B.M. in Music Performance in 2014.

During her performance studies, Rianne began work as a private guitar instructor and developed a strong passion for teaching. She has taught general music classes and group guitar lessons to students in grades K-12 in public schools in Brooklyn, as well as group guitar classes for both children and adults at community organizations. More recently, she has taught classical guitar lessons and coached ensembles in after school programs at private elementary and secondary schools in the Upper East Side. In 2015, she earned an Advanced Certificate in Music Education from the Brooklyn College Conservatory of Music. Her private students range in age from four years old to older adults, in level from beginner to advanced, and in genre from classical to popular music styles. She also teaches music theory and arranging to young songwriters.

In addition to teaching, playing chamber music, and doing solo restaurant and wedding gigs, Rianne also enjoys blogging about guitar pedagogy, music theory, and how music helps shape the mind and the soul.
