Rianne Mision

Musician & Educator

“Before I found Rianne, I’d been playing guitar for 19 years but had only worked with two instructors for about a few months each. I found that, though I loved the instrument I’d chosen, learning in a structured environment seemed to take a lot of the fun out of playing my guitar. I figured I’d always have to preface anytime I took my guitar around company with, “be nice, I’m self-taught.” Though I already knew most chords and a good amount of technique when I found Rianne, I’d never learned to read music, something that was starting to shame me as a longtime hobbyist. From our first lesson, Rianne and I seemed to click! She asked me what my goals were and emphasized that she would always be happy to tab out and teach me anything else I’d like to learn, since reading music isn’t always the most engaging thing to do for an entire hour. I definitely took advantage of that! (Sent her some Backstreet Boys guitar requests one time and she was a really good sport about it.) Whenever I send her something, she has it learned by our next lesson like the true professional she is (with nice, neat printouts for me as well). Working with Rianne has allowed me to keep playing guitar fun for me. Sometimes we’ll work with my electric guitar instead and she’ll bring hers. When she senses my brain is getting too full of new information, she says it’s time to jam! I’m no Jimmy Page but her encouragement made me feel like a rockstar! I also have a very weird schedule because I work freelance and Rianne is always very understanding and accommodating. I think that about covers it. You’ll love her!”

“My daughter loves studying the guitar with Rianne. She is patient, fun and above all, great at teaching the guitar. I am amazed at how quickly my daughter learned and she looks forward to her lesson every week. I highly recommend Rianne!”

“Learning classical guitar from Rianne has been an excellent experience. Her demeanor as an instructor is relaxed, so our sessions are always enjoyable. But she is highly attentive to my technique as I play and she carefully selects the pieces I work on to challenge me and with the aim of expanding my skill set. She does a great job of supplying exercises to work on outside of our sessions and encourages me to send her questions that came up as I practice via email. And she’s also realistic about the fact that work and family commitments mean I practice less often than I’d like, which makes a big difference — as a result, practice becomes something I look forward to rather than a chore.”
